Streetrich Hip Hop Society had the chance to speak at the Social Purpose Real Estate Conference in Vancouver. Together with Art Space Action, Vancouver Skateboard Coalition, 206 Zulu Nation and Safe Amplification Society they wanted to create more awareness about the needs related to space and different youth cultures.

This interactive discussion highlights opportunities and challenges in creative space development for youth. The panelists are leaders of youth organizations who are developing creative spaces that go beyond traditionally limited notions of sports and recreation. They show how the often edgy politics of fun inherent to music, hip hop and skateboarding cultures offer critical new tools in overcoming formidable challenges to creative space development. Anyone planning or involved with space projects for youth—or who enjoys having fun—should attend this dynamic panel.
“Hastings Culture Clash” was created to gather dancers of various genres, as well as non-dancers, in one setting with the goal of having everyone interact and learn from each other while introducing new people to our dance community.
This will be done with FREE, beginner-friendly workshops and open floor dancing/cyphers.

Safe Cyphers is a series of workshops that will
train community leaders and potential leaders of various black popular
cultural forms, including but not limited to emceeing, dancing and visual
art, in the art of workshop facilitation.
By using resources such as rap lyrics, poetry, funk
music and more, participants will move through different mediums on a
journey through black and POC narratives within our culture.
The Safe Cypher series is a unique workshops series
that:
- Helps develop a
network of artists that have a better understanding of racism and other
oppressions e.g. sexism or transphobia
- Helps community
leaders and potential leaders learn how to handle real-life situations of oppression,
especially within emotionally charged workshop environments
- Helps community leaders and potential leaders create safer workshops that
service their community better
- Helps build creative capacity within black and POC artist
communities.
The Safe Cypher series will be closed off with a final public showcase that reflects the knowledge that was produced through the workshop.

The program will be running on 2-6pm Feb 1, 8, 15, 22 and a final performance on the afternoon/evening of Feb 28 or Mar 1.
